AMC began its 33 years of history as a partnership born of necessity: become one company or say "farewell" to two. When Nash and Hudson combined operations in 1954 it was an act of survival that proved, over the decades, to be a roller coaster of successes, failures and, sometimes, just plain bad luck.
Today, AMC might best be remembered for the Rambler, a compact and economical car that carved out a niche when the "Big Three" were busy making cars bigger and less fuel efficient. Once Motor Trend's "Car of the Year", the spunky little favorite got caught up in corporate changes and, although occasionally spotted on the road, is more often a nostalgic favorite of AMC die cast car collectors.
